Slippers for crossheads are steel castings of44-49 kilogrammes tenacity and 15-25 per cent elongation. They arelined with white metal: 83 per cent tin, 6 per cent copper, 11 per centantimony. Crosshead pins of iron have 37-44 kilogrammes tenacityand 20 per cent elongation. The main driving and side coupling rods—see Figure 38—are of mild forged steel, 45-55 kilogrammes ten-acity and at least 22 per cent elongation. The outside main rodsweigh 26y kilogrammes and the inside main rods 339 kilogrammes.All rods of the valve mechanism are of forged mild steel, 44-55 kilo-grammes tenacity, 22 per cent minimum elongation, the eyes of allrods and levers being bushed with hardened steel set in with hydraulicpressure.
