Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Royal Australian Navy Seaman Combat System Operator-Underwater Brandon King, from Katherine, Northern Territory, Australia, has served for two-and-a-half years. First, six months with the army as a patrolman in an indigenous development program then joined the navy as a combat systems operator. He has a six-year contract and says he likes where he's going. King says he enjoys the routine, structure and learning opportunities that navy life offers.

"I always wanted to join. I wanted to get out of town and see the world," King said about his decision to enlist for naval service. "I find my work very interesting and rewarding. I keep the ship safe, so no one sneaks up on us. My favorite part of being out to sea is hearing the dolphins and whales singing to each other," King added with a smile.

King now serves aboard the Royal Australian Navy Anzac Class frigate HMAS Ballarat (FFH155) and finds himself on his first deployment to Hawaii for Rim of the Pacific.

Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Antonio Turretto Ramos/Released)
