Summary

[edit]
Description

British Post-war Anti-tank SPG Prototype. The FV4005 used a Centurion chassis fitted with an experimental OQF (Ordnance Quick Firing ) 7.2inch L4 gun. Intended as an anti-tank weapon, the gun was the largest and most powerful in existence at the time. Two prototypes were built, but the project was overtaken by new Anti-Tank Guided Missiles and was cancelled in 1957. Now the only survivor, ‘Pud’ is a composite vehicle with the original turret mounted on a spare Centurion Mk.VIII chassis. It is on display at the entrance to ‘The Tank Museum’. Bovington Camp, Dorset, UK.
