SYDNEY, Australia - GARDENS |
|||||
Description |
We had been offered rooms at the Australian Club; Macquarie Street overlooked the gardens and the harbour, and the prospect from it was exquisite; the Australian Club was in the heart of the city; but the charges there were moderate, the bedrooms said to be comfortable,and the living as good as could be desired. It was close to the Bank, the public offices, and the commercial port; the gardens were within a short walk; the Club was clearly the place, and to this we decided to go. Sir Henry accompanied me in a cab to the door, showing me the park, and Woolner's great statue of Cook on the way. |
