Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 018 The Pucara is an indigenous Argentinian reconnaissance and counter insurgency attack aircraft. This is one of 24 which were deployed to the Falkland Islands during 1982 as part of Escuadron Aeromovil Malvinas. It took part in the last Pucara mission of the conflict, on 10th June 1982, but received damage from small arms fire and did not fly again. After the Argentine surrender it was shipped back to the UK on the SS Atlantic Causeway. Returned to airworthy condition, it was allocated British military serial ZD485 and was used on evaluation flights, being the only Pucara to fly in the UK. She attended the 1983 International Air Tattoo held at RAF Greenham Common, her only public appearance, and on 9th September that year she flew to Cosford for the Aerospace Museum. She is seen on display in the ‘War in the Air’ hangar, although she has since gone into storage and is not currently on display (as of 2018). RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, UK.
