Title
FINGER RING
Description
English:

Gold Post-Medieval posy ring with D-shaped cross section, decorated on the outside with geometric pattern of ovals, triangles and discs. On the inside is an inscription reading From my afection springeth my affliction.

A similarly decorated posy ring in the British Museum (AF.1313), also with an italic inscription on the interior of the band, is dated to the 17th century based on the exterior decoration. Another ring from the collection (1961,1202.459) with exterior decoration like this is dated to the 16th – 17th century. The italic inscription on the Berwick St Leonard ring means it is unlikely to have been made prior to the 17th century, when this style become more common, replacing capital letter inscriptions.
