Description

Did you know that whale shark skin is up to 5 inches thick? But while that help protect these gentle giants -- like this one, swimming in Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary -- from predation, whale sharks are still subject to threats from fishing and ship strikes. (And yes, that is a diver looking mighty tiny above the shark!)
