Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A sketch of the proposed military hospital in Washington by F. D. Roosevelt, 13 Dec 1937. Roosevelt wrote "15 stories center 2 stories additions"; later both heights increased to 22 and 4 respectively. The project met strong opposition among construction and planning experts (including Roosevelt's uncle Fred Delano) but nevertheless the president prevailed. The tower, inspired by the Nebraska Capitol, would materialize in the 1940s as the Naval Hospital in Bethesda. [1].
