Description
English: A U.S. Navy Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat of Fighter Squadron 1 (VF-1), Carrier Air Group 5 (CVG-5), warms up, prior to take off, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) during the ship's shakedown cruise in the spring of 1943. It is painted in the the non-specular blue-grey over light-grey scheme. VF-1 was redesignated VF-5 in July 1943. Note the chockmen ready to pull chocks from the plane's wheels.
