Title
F43CE1c.JPG late anglo-saxon buckle detail
Description
English: Anglo-scandinavian copper alloy buckle, 48mm long, 41mm wide and weighing 20.41grams. The buckle is semi circular in form and circular in section. It has two zoomorphic terminals in the form of a dragon? head. The creature has almond eyes and an upturned snout with a flat area under its chin where the buckles pin would have been fixed. The body is decorated with short straight incised lines which appear to represent fur. In the centre is a further animal head, this one is more cat like with a pointed chin and round nose. A gap is formed between the creatures upwards pointing ears on which the pin would have rested.
