Description A U.S. Navy Vought F-8C Crusader (BuNo 147021) from Fighter Squadron 24 "Red Checkertails" before launching from the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31). VF-24 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 19 (CVW-19) aboard the Bon Homme Richard for a deployment to Vietnam from 26 January to 25 August 1967.
The F-8C 147021 was shot down by flak 16 km south-west of Hanoi, North Vietnam, on 19 May 1967. The pilot ejected and became a prisoner of war.
