The scene is staged in Alabama, where Negro Extension Work Among Negroes, 1920. 19 extension work was first started. This film gives a striking insightinto real conditions and how they are being improved in many sec-tions of the South, and should be of great educational value. LEADERSHIP. A serious handicap to rapid development of Xegro extension workis the scarcity of capable and trained leaders. There never wasgreater need for the right kind of Xegro leaders all over the Souththan to-day. The forward-thinking people of both races realize thatthe success and harmonious conduct of extension work, or any otherline of educational activity, depends on getting Xegro leaders withjudgment and discretion. White leaders having nothing but thewelfare of the Xegro and white people in mind have questioned howfar Xegroes could be used in local leadership. Tuskegee, Hampton,

In the main, the State extension divisions have beenfortunate in selecting workers who have shown rare caution and com-mon sense in approaching the difficulties incident to the performanceof their duties as agents. Some of the Xegro institutions are makingefforts to establish special courses for the training of men and womenextension leaders. This should furnish a better class from which toselect agents in the future. OUTLOOK. To those responsible for the establishment and guidance of thework, and who have had the most intimate knowledge of its workings,it is gratifying to feel that the experiment has been successful. 20 Department Circular 190, U.
