Summary
[edit]DescriptionExplosion tragedy site (49661198701).jpg |
Just off to the right of this picture is the scene of the fifth largest non-nuclear, non-natural explosion in history, which took place on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus on 11 July 2011. A large store of explosives and ammunition self-detonated, killing 13 people and severely damaging Southern Cyprus' only power station (the chimneys shown are part of the re-constructed facility). When I took the photo I wasn't aware that it included a gravesite (indicated by an arrow) which I assume belongs to one of the victims.
