For years it has beenknown that this section offered a rich field for archeological study,but prior to the explorations herein described it remained practicallyneglected. The shores of the river, both in New Jersey and inPennsylvania, afford broad reaches of arable land, and along thisstretch of the stream are several flat islands. The New Jersey sideespecially furnished suitable level places for camps and for farming,and on these numerous evidences of aboriginal habitation are found. Dr Edward S.
