Français : Exploit du chef d'escadron Franceschi-Delonne au siège de Gênes, 20 mai 1800. Cet officier était parvenu à franchir les lignes autrichiennes pour rendre compte de la situation de la garnison française au Premier consul Bonaparte, qui arrivait en Italie avec le gros des troupes, avant de revenir à Gênes porteur de dépêches importantes. Alors qu'il approche de la ville par la mer, il manque d'être tué ou pris par la flotte anglaise. La légende présente sous la gravure indique : "l'un des rameurs est tué, un autre est blessé. Franceschi ne peut éviter d'être pris sur son frêle esquif. Dans cette extrémité, il attache ses dépêches autour de son cou au moyen d'un mouchoir, se dépouille de ses vêtements et se jette à la mer pour gagner le rivage en nageant". |
