Summary
[edit]DescriptionExecutive Tower, Buffalo, New York - 20201223.jpg |
English: As seen in December 2020: the Executive Tower stands at 849 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, New York, on what was once the site of the 1883 Charles M. Underhill House. Plans at the time of the house's demolition in 1960 were to replace it with a 140-bed nursing home, but what instead went up in its place two years later were nine stories and 49 units of some of the most modern and upscale condominiums Buffalo had to offer at the time. Speaking of "modern", the Executive Tower functions as a relatively interesting example of that style of architecture: eschewing the minimalist simplicity intrinsic to most iterations of Modernism, the façade is made interesting by columns of bay windows projecting angularly outward, honeycome-patterned metal latticework adorning the spandrel panels on the column of windows that runs down the center of the front elevation, and yet more latticework on the ground floor, this time in concrete and in a pattern rather reminiscent of ellipses and crosses pattées. |
