English: Exchequergate from the Cathedral Close. The inner gatehouse for the medieval cathedral close built c1350, the west side can be seen at 46644. If you walk through the right hand passage and look upwards you'll see one of the few remaining medieval crucifixes as a boss in the vaulting. A rare escape from the iconoclastic excesses of the 16th & 17th centuries. |
