Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Located at the prominent corner of Elk and Holly Streets, this was Bellingham's grandest office building when built in 1907 and is unfortunately the only original building left anchoring this intersection, the rest having succumbed to fire or parking lots in the 1950s-70s. It was built by brothers Samuel and Joseph Alsop and designed by James C. Teague, who made the steel frame building completely fireproof. The building was purchased by Henry Schupp in 1920 who soon converted it into a hotel to meet growing demand caused by the inauguration of ferry service to Vancouver Island. The building now houses the YMCA, once located in the building across Holly Street.
