Description Coombs BC was to the British bus enthusiast as Barry South Wales was to the steam railway engine buff. Old British buses which had served their home cities for perhaps fifteen to twenty years were often exported to Canada for use on sightseeing tours, and when they were no longer fit to run they were towed here to become a source of spare parts to keep other vehicles running although there had been an intention to preserve some of them. After years of open storage, they gradually rusted away in the salt sea air of the Pacific Coast. I had heard that the old buses at Coombs had all gone by early 2009 so I was surprised to spot this lone bus still at the famous site in Coombs in March 2011. I understand that when the other buses were removed this one was given to the land owners towards payment of outstanding rent, and that they were now hoping to sell it. ACH646 is a 1946 AEC Regent II, which originally ran in England for Trent and was later exported to Canada for use on sightseeing tours. Perhaps this one will be saved as a possible restoration project.
