Only 40 to 50 per cent.of the- plants vrill bear double flowers,- tb; balance producing largesingle blossoms the reason being that the double flowers are pistillate—having no stamens and consequently bear no polen—so. to produceseed must depend upon staminate singles for pollination. > The pro-geny therefore comes about- half doubles and half singles. DoubleCosmos flowers, aside from their novelty and beauty, are of lastingsubstance, both on the plants and as cut flowers. The colors so farproduced are crimson
