Description

EVEIRYTHHMG FOR THE GA1DEM - VerfeftaM© S©@dl
Winter King Ruta Baga
_ This is a very excellent and reliable variety for the family garden,
distinguished by its remarkably solid flesh, which is crisp, firm and
fine grained, and when boiled has a most attractive color. It differs
from all others in shape, it is longer, holding its thickness from the
shoulder down to the middle of the root from whence it tapers gradu-
ally. This means a much greater weight per root, so that the family
supply may be raised on a smaller area. It is good for use at any time
of its growth and is always tender and appetizing to the taste, but is
at its best during winter, when fresh vegetables are not available.
Its great weight recommends it above all others for stock pur-
poses, it will out yield any variety in weight per acre. (See cut.)
Price, 5c. pkt, 10c. oz., 25c. \i lb., 75c. lb.
HENDERSON'S LONG ISLAND IMPROVED. Bred from the
American Purple Top, over which it is a great improvement.
It is very much larger, has no neck, and is a remarkably good
keeper; the flesh is rich yellow, and of fine quality. Price, 5c.
pkt, 10c. oz., 30c. . 4 lb., 80c. lb. ... _
Witloof Chicory
Called also "French
Endive" "Brussels Chic-
ory" and "Christmas
Salad." Seed sown in
spring produces long thick
roots, which after lifting,
and "resting" a few days
are replanted to start new
growth, when they form
the blanched crowns as
illustrated. The work re-
quired is simple and easy,
and the crop will amply
repay the work put upon
it, for it is at once the
tenderest and most deli-
cately flavored of salads,
and one of the few that can
be grown during winter.
Complete cultural direc-
witloof chicory tions are given in our pam-
phlet "Salads — Growing and Blanching," sent free on request.
(See cut.) Price, 10c. pkt, 25c. oz., 70c. 1 4 lb., $2.25 lb.

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
