VASE, WITH A DESIGN BY MARC ANTONIO, IN GRISAILLE ASCRIBED TO PIERRE KKYMONI) PAINTED ENAMELS Unfortunately, however, the artist, as he grewolder, allowed himself to be absorbed in the manu-facturer. Not content with executing beautifulplates and vases, he had them copied again andagain, often by very bad workmen. He allowedhis signature to go out upon all these copies, so thathis initials became rather trade-marks than artistssignatures. It is therefore impossible to know forcertain whether any definite piece of work is by hisown hand. He executed all sorts of work, plaques,dishes and plates, candlesticks and salt-cellars. Hegenerally preferred a ground of black ; upon thishe put white grisaille, the flesh of the figures beingtouched up with red and the general design enrichedwith gold. About the middle of the sixteenth cen-tury his style underwent a change.
