Rieuse vue, il y avait presque antagonisme entre eux. Carrière,de plus en plus, éteignait sa palette. Celle de Renoirdevenait tous les jours plus riche, chargée de fruits, desang, de matière céleste. Pourtant, ce sont peut-être lesdeux maîtres de la même époque quon pourrait rapprocherle plus logiquement. Quon regarde deux photographiesde portraits denfants ou de nus, lune de Renoir, lautrede Carrière, lune moins claire, lautre moins sombre quela toile originale. Même compréhension des figures, larges,vibrantes, pulpeuses, des regards étonnés, même sens dela vie animale, même amour de la forme sinueuse et pleine,même modelé sensuel, bien que dun sensualisme plus àfleur dépiderme et plus instinctif chez Renoir, plusexpressif et plus cérébral chez Carrière. Quant à Rodin, plus âgé de près de dix ans, mais quiattendit le succès plus longtemps que Carrière encore, onconnaît les liens dadmiration et damitié qui se nouèrententre eux.
