Men dettaförminskade icke hans ifver det minsta, utan fortsatte hanpå alla möjliga sätt att omvända andra till sin egen öfver-tygelse härutinnan. Efter mycken bön och möda hade hanlyckats få några andra lika fattiga som han sjelf på sinsida. Dessa sammanträdde i Kettering och bildade det förstamissionssällskapet, hvars, vid samma tillfälle bildade grund-fond blef — tretton pund sterling eller sextiofem dollars. Strax derpå for Carey ut till Indien, hvarest han fann,att det ostindiska kompaniet var lika godt som sitt ord, eme-dan det förbjöd honom att i egenskap af missionär beträdadess besittningar. Men danskarne, som den tiden besuttoSerampore, tilläto honom att lefva och verka inom deras område.

Så vardtbibeln öfversatt till en mängd hittills nästan okända språk,och utsändes nitiske arbetare i den stora vingården, somsträcker sig från det snöhöljda Labrador ned till hottentotter-nas solbrända land och från de vestindiska öarna till kanniba-lernas hem i Stilla hafvet. Äfven det muromgärdade Kinahar blifvit skådeplats
