[edit]DescriptionEthopia, Kenya and Somalia (MODIS 2016-03-22).jpg |
English: On March 13, 2016, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASAs Terra satellite flew over the Horn of Africa and captured a true-color image of the arid landscape.
Most of the image is colored in reds and tans which are the colors of dry country with little vegetation. The rugged Ethiopian Highlands, seen in the north and west, are marked by deep valleys and steep mountains. The Highlands are also washed with the green of vegetation. Small clouds have popped up on the western side of the mountains, near Lake Shala. East of the Ethiopian Highlands escarpment, the semi-desert lowlands continue into the Federal Republic of Somalia, which lies along the Indian Ocean. In the far south the land belongs to Kenya. |
