Description
Español: Se mantiene durante meses, de manera que es fácil encontrarla. En tiempo seco, el exoperidio se contrae, envuelve y tapa el endoperidio.

Por el contrario, en tiempo húmedo y favorable a la dispersión de las esporas, el exoperidio se hidrata, abre y aplana o hasta se incurva hacia el exterior levantando la seta.

En este estado hidratado, la estrella de tierra higrométrica puede moverse como el andar de un cangrejo en la arena o ser arrastrada por el viento

Se diferencia de la verdadera estrella de tierra (Geastrum ) por la rugosidad de la superficie del exoperidio, por su endoperidio alzado y rasgado irregularmente y por su consistencia variable según la humedad ambiental.
