Essroc cement silos
Keating channel
Keating Channel
Northernmost Bascule bridge on Cherry Street.
Masked by this road sign is the lift bridge's control tower.
These black structures are huge berms of loose material, covered with huge rubber tarpaulins. Several kilometers of berms line the southern shore of the channel to the turning basin. The berms are close to 30 meters tall. They mainly store construction material, like sand or gravel -- but sometimes road salt has been stored here, and this has triggered at least one lawsuit due to salt pollution.
