Summary

[edit]
Description
English: From a first visit I have always admired the town for seemingly considering its “old” houses not as “things of the past” but “things to be kept for the future”. During later visits many had not been torn down, but restored, in particular in an area called Odunpazarı (“Firewood market”). People have criticised me for using words like “old” rather than “Ottoman” or “traditional” My reason was some were plain old, and others might have been from the republican period, so not Ottoman. I find that the town itself has a page about “Tarihi Odunpazarı Evleri” where “tarihi” is “historical”. So be it.
