Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Over the past few months, record sea water temperatures have been recorded in northern Atlantic Ocean and in the Mediterranean Sea. According to Mercator Ocean, the western Mediterranean is currently experiencing a "moderate" sea heatwave. However, the heatwave appears to be intensifying, shifting from moderate to strong category, particularly around the Strait of Gibraltar. Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) data corroborates this observation. As shown in this data visualisation based on CMEMS data of 13 July, the Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly along the coasts of Southern Spain and North Africa was approximately +5°C above the reference value for the period, indicative of the escalating heatwave conditions.
