English: Explosive activity at Colima, Mexico�s most active volcano sent ash and steam plumes high into the air throughout February, 2015.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA�s Terra satellite captured this true-color image on February 21 as it passed over the erupting volcano. Red hotspots mark areas where the thermal sensors on the instrument detected areas with temperatures higher than background. In this case, they mark areas of fresh volcanic activity, likely effusions of lava. The gray plume rises from the southern caldera, and drifts to the east, then curves to the south.

The Colima volcano has been in near-constant activity since 1994. It has had more than 30 eruptive periods recorded since 1585, and several large eruptions in the late 1990s.
