Description |
English: Das Gemälde in der Bildergalerie von Sanssouci zeigt eine verlorene Komposition des sehr erfolgreichen Bologneser Malers Guido Reni (1575-1642). Von dem originalen Bild hat sich nur ein Fragment mit dem Putto in der Sammlung des Fürsten Liechtenstein erhalten. Um die Wünsche seiner Kunden nach seinen Bilderfindungen zu befriedigen, arbeitete Reni mit mehreren Mitarbeitern und Schülern zusammen. Die Kopie in der Bildergalerie könnte von Renis Schüler Ercole de Maria stammen. Sie hängt schon seit der Einrichtung der Galerie 1764 hier. König Friedrich II. von Preußen (1712-1786) gefiel sicherlich die heitere und entspannte Atmosphäre der Schilderung, die den Moment zeigt, in dem Europa und ihre Freundinnen noch nichts davon ahnen, dass sich hinter der Gestalt des scheinbar zahmen Stiers der verliebte Gott Zeus verbirgt, der Europa im nächsten Augenblick entführen wird.
