[edit]DescriptionEragrostis trichophora spiklet4 NWS - Flickr - Macleay Grass Man.jpg | Introduced warm-season perennial tufted grass; stems are erect, grow to 1 m tall and sometimes arise from stolons. Leaves with sheath smooth and glabrous, or sparsely tuberculate; ligules are a ciliate rim with hairs 0.5–1mm long; blades are flat or convolute, to 4 mm wide and scaberulous. Flowerheads are contracted at first but later become open, usually <40% of plant height, to 27 cm long and 3–12 cm wide; branches are slender; primary branchesare naked for up to 2.2 cm. Spikelets are to 4.5 mm long, about 1 mm wide and 5–7-flowered; lemmas are about 1.5 mm long. Flowers in summer. Grows on roadsides, in drains and other disturbed sites on sandy loam. This species occurred for several kilometres along the Tamworth to Werris Creek Rd, several km outside of Werris Creek. |
