Description Native, warm-season, perennial, erect, tufted grass to 80 cm tall. Flowerheads are interrupted spike-like contracted panicles (5-20 cm long). Spikelets are 3-8 mm long, 8-25 flowered, flattened, typically pinkish to purplish on one side and creamish to pale green on the other, unawned and in dense unstalked (or nearly so) clusters along the main stem. Flowering is in summer. Found on sand or loam soils mostly in woodlands and forests, but also riverbanks, swamp margins and drains. Native biodiversity. A minor component of pastures. Little is known about its quality or management.
