Description
Italiano: Epibiosi tra Hippocampus guttulatus Cuvier, 1829 (phylum Chordata, classe Teleostei) e Obelia geniculata (Linnaeus, 1758) (phylum Cnidaria, classe Hydrozoa).

Giuseppe Zirpolo ha raffigurato, nel disegno, un piccolo esemplare di ippocampo, pescato nel Golfo di Napoli nel 1939, che portava, aderenti dalla regione interna della parte più attorcigliata della coda fino alla regione basale del corpo, i rami striscianti di un idrozoo, l’O. geniculata.
I rami aderenti alla superficie del corpo non recavano danni o lesioni alla pelle dell’ippocampo e portavano rami secondari con i polipi e le gonoteche. Tutti i polipi presentavano tentacoli ben distesi, atti alla cattura del cibo, contrariamente a quanto accade nelle forme parassite.

Si trattava di un nuovo caso di epibiosi tra un idrozoo e un teleosteo con vantaggio dell’idrozoo, ma senza alcun danno o lesione da parte dell'ippocampo.
