Summary
[edit]DescriptionEole-Cap-Chat-1995-018.jpg |
English: Éole. Originally rated at 4 MW. Rerated to 2.5 MW, some say 3.4 MW. The world's largest Darrieus turbine ever built. The giant Darrieus rotor 64 meters in diameter and 96 meters tall was erected in early 1984 and went into operation in 1987. The experimental turbine operated until spring 1993 when it was stopped due to damage of its large and expensive lower bearing. During its six years of operation the turbine generated 12 million kWh.(The photos below were taken in 1995 when on a lecture tour to the Université de Rimouski, which is not far from Cap Chat. By then the turbine had already been taken out of service. ) |
