[edit]DescriptionEocetus wardii.jpg |
Italiano: Photo of lumbar vertebra from the fossil cetacean Basilotritus (USNM 310633) in lateral (A) and ventral view (B). Scale bar = 10 cm. Compare the overall shape of the vertebral body, anteroposterior length of the transverse processes, and the distinctive pock-marked texture of the bone to the specimen in Figure 2. Arrows point to individual pockmarks on the bone surface.
This specimen (USNM 310633) was originally described as a protocetid and named Eocetus wardii by Mark Uhen 1999.[1]It was re-classified in 2013 to a new genus of basilosaurid, Basilotritus.[2] References
