A photo showing a canal and mill buildings

The building on the left is part of the Saco-Lowell Shops, once one of the largest textile machine manufacturers in the United States. In 1932, the company consolidated operations and closed the Lowell facility. The complex was razed a short time later and the land sat vacant for almost 80 years.
