[edit]DescriptionEntrance to the Great Pyramid (46675413335).jpg |
After the Great Pyramid at Cairo was initially sealed, it's entrance was hidden and faced over with smooth limestone. This made its' location impossible to find. However, about 820 AD concerted efforts were made to break into the pyramid to loot it's treasures. After a great effort they forced an entry lower down and eventually found the hidden entrance and passageways, from inside the pyramid. It is by the robbers' entrance (lower right) that visitors enter today. In my picture some people climb higher to explore the original entrance, at the extreme top right of the photo (which is closed off to visitors now). Photo taken in 1984 using a Nikkormat FTn, 50mm f2.0 ai lens and Kodachrome. Photo cropped from a larger image. |
