Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Entrance to Rosemount Estate The estate is just another business park.

Rousemount Mills were known locally as Dempster's, a major employer in Elland. Edith May Dempster (1883 - 1942), the second daughter of Robert Dempster, the founder of the business, became on marriage Mrs Edith Pretty. In the late-1920s she and her husband moved to the Sutton Hoo Estate near Woodbridge, Suffolk. Excavations there in 1938/9 revealed the Sutton Hoo Ship Burial, where Saxon boats from the 6th & 7th centures had been dragged up the hillside from the River Deben to become (possibly) the final resting-place of Raedwald, King of East Anglia.
