Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Entrance to King George V Playing Field This open space, now part of Mile End Park, was conceived as a memorial to George V following his death in 1936, to provide healthy outdoor activities to the young people of East London. The foundation that was formed to raise the capital also funded King George's playing fields across the country and overseas. The Portland stone pillars seen here at the Rhodeswell Road entrance are carved with heraldic panels of a lion and a unicorn displaying the royal coat of arms on either side.
