Summary
[edit]DescriptionEntrance to John Crowthers - geograph.org.uk - 843344.jpg |
English: Entrance to John Crowthers In 1901 Joseph Crowther one of the four sons of John Crowther formed the company of John Crowther and Sons Milnsbridge with two of his sons after starting Bank Bottom Mills, Marsden in 1867. They were joined in partnership by his younger brother John Edward, younger by 21 years, in 1885. He dissolved his partnership with John Edward in 1901 leaving him the sole owner of Bank Bottom. In 1883 Joseph had acquired Union Mills, Milnsbridge, which was in an area that had six mills all in close proximity and all individual. He acquired another one of the mills, Stanley Mills, in 1891 and Stonefield Mill in 1902. Joseph then suffered a fatal car accident in 1905 leaving his son David Stoner Crowther to complete buying up the rest of the mills: Elm Ing Mill, Spring Mill, rebuilt in 1912, and finally Burdett Mill in 1931. |
