Summary
[edit]DescriptionEntrance to Dunbar Battery - geograph.org.uk - 196107.jpg |
English: Entrance to Dunbar Battery. The battery, now in ruins, was built in 1781 during the American War of Independence. There were fears that France and Spain, who had joined the American side, would invade, particularly after the appearance off Dunbar in 1779 of five French ships under the command of the Scottish privateer John Paul Jones (born John Paul). This was the John Paul Jones who went on to become the great American naval hero. |
