Português: A origem da Sé de Aveiro remonta ao séc. XV. Era, à altura, a igreja do Convento de S. Domingos. A igreja primitiva era constituída por capela mor, sem coro alto, e composta por três naves, divididas entre si por duas séries de quatro arcos . Entre o séc. XVI e XVII, obras de conservação, converteram-se as naves laterais em capela devocionais, mesmo para se conseguir uma maior estabilidade ao conjunto.
Esta igreja foi convertida em Matriz da paróquia de Nossa Senhora da Glória em 1835. Em 1938 torna-se na Catedral da Diocese de Aveiro por bula do Papa Pio XI executada por D. João Evangelista de Lima Vidal. A nave da igreja foi reconstruída no séc. XVIII ficando mais iluminada com a abertura de amplas janelas ovais. Nos espaços livres das paredes há panos de azulejos do séc. XVIII. Os da direita representam um panorama da cidade de Osma, Espanha, em cuja diocese nasceu S. Domingos de Gusmão e uma ilustração de uma legenda da liturgia Mariana. Os da esquerda, além de nova ilustração de outra legenda litúrgica Mariana, apresentam um aspecto da cidade de Bolonha, Itália, com o seu convento Beneditino de Santa Maria do Monte, cidade onde S. Domingos de Gusmão faleceu. A construção do novo carpo da ampliação foi efectuada em 1974 - 1976. A estrutura é de ferro e betão e as paredes foram forradas interiormente com material moderno que não produz eco. Na perpendicular do altar, colocou-se a bela e delicada cúpula de estuque, do tempo da chamada "arte nova", que contém símbolos da paixão de Cristo. |
