English: Engineers connecting lifting brackets to tower section. Turbine No 17 was the penultimate tower of the 26 towers to be built on Scout Moor.
Seen here in early June 2008 the top 22 metre tower section is in the process of having the lifting brackets attached. This close up shot of the top tower section shows the huge array of electrical cables that have to be connected to the nacelle that will contain the generator, braking system and gear box these cables will also link each individual turbine to the central system control known as the SCADA. The SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a computer system which collects data from each turbine on the performance of that turbine in real time. Data from the turbines is logged and any faults that may occur with the turbines are recorded here. If a fault occurs with a wind turbine it is recorded, and an instant message, either through email or SMS text to mobile numbers is sent, so that the problem can be fixed in a short space of time and thereby minimising turbine downtime. 953836 829601 829637 837293 837229 824546 855939 Turbine details: Tower Height: 60m Blade Length: 40m Total Max Height: 100m Manufacturer: Nordex Model: N80 |
