Inspections are conducted every five years and are necessary to identify any issues early and ensure the dam continues to offer multiple benefits to the public. Tainter gates are a type of flood gate used in dams to control water flow. Pine Flat Dam reduces flood risk to Fresno County and stores water used for water supply and hydroelectric power.
