Enema syringe ("Irrigateur du Dr Eguisier"), France, 1855-1900
Description

Medicinal liquids or water were stored in the brass reservoir to be pumped through the green tubing and inserted into the rectum as an enema. Enemas were a popular way of giving medical treatments until the 1850s when the hypodermic syringe slowly came into use. The machine is named after its inventor, Eguisier, who was a French doctor.
