Title
end and side scraper (margin)
Description
English: A flint end and side scraper made from the distal end of a broken flake: sub-triangular in plan, plano-convex in profile and flattened triangular in section. A tertiary flake, with no cortex remaining. The proximal end of the flake appears to have been deliberately broken off at the time of manufacture, producing a hinge fracture at that end of the flake. The dorsal face bears the scars of the removal of multiple earlier shallow flakes. The flake has been reworked by the careful removal of several long, shallow flakes at the distal end together with several smaller flakes at the left hand margin to produce a scraper edge. The ventral face is not reworked: it is slightly concave and the conchoidal ripples are clearly visible.

The flint is finely textured, with a mottled white to pale grey, silky surface patina. At a much later date the scraper edge has been damaged, or possibly reworked, revealing the brown-grey of the original unpatinated flint within.

Bond (2004), on page 151, fig.5.135 no.F113, illustrates a similar scraper from the Early to Middle Bronze Age site at Mount Pleasant, Dorset.
