Whitaker places Abbies withina close of fifty or ninety acres. Wasthat the case at Glastonbury, West-minster, St. Albans, &c. &c. ? WereMonasteries Seats in parks? The Churchis placed by him on the North side ofthe Cloister. At Gloucester, &c. it ison the South side; and numerousexceptions might be found to all hisother positions. The fact is, that con-venience or necessity often dictated thesites. In the preceding parts of this Chap-ter wiU be found many other particu-lars, making in the whole a sufficientgrammar for topographical description,excluding that full extent of profes-sional terms, which would defeat theobject of the topographer, by clothinghis description in an unknown language.
