Animal characteristics: Height: 2 m; Weight: 50 kg; Identification: The emu has grayish-brown feathers and short gray feathers on its neck; Habitat: Arid plains, woodlands, deserts; Diet: Omnivore: fruit, berries, insects; Reproduction: Emus mate in April. After the female lays 7-10 eggs in their nest, the male then incubates them for 60 days; Social Structure: A flock of chicks will follow their father for six months, snuggling together each night under his feathers; Behavior: Emus, like ostriches, cannot fly; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Second in size only to the ostrich, emus are Australia's largest birds.
