| Description | Inside the park, in an open enclosure very close to the entrance was this Emu, which was dangerously close to the railing. It was making strange gurgling sounds and had it's neck almost a foot and a half onto the pedestrian walking path, looking for tidbits. It could give anyone a pretty nasty bite. Despite my love for birds, I was not too comfortable with him actively following me along his enclosure, neck way out and making strange sounds, so I gave him a wide berth. No volunteers at all present to warn visitors about getting too close. I shuddered to think what would happen if all those kids descended upon that enclosure, with many curious kids trying to touch the large bird. Natives to Australia, Emus are known to be curious birds, even in the wild,and will follow humans around from sheer curiosity. (Butterworth, Penang, Nov. 2013) |
